training

All the Instructors and helpers within the Group are volunteers. We do also employ external Instructors, therapists and other specialists to provide support and training on a regular basis. We will if necessary secure specialist advice for individual children.

We try to run several internal training sessions every year and all volunteers are able to attend external training events. We currently have a Lottery Funded programme to train instructors and volunteers.

All volunteers undergo a brief induction and are able to work with more experienced volunteers .All volunteers now are required to be CRB checked. We will secure CRB checks for new volunteeers. From November 2010 all potential volunteers must be have CRB and ISA clearance before they can start working with our riders. We will secure these checks. We offer training to volunteers from the age of 14 to 90.We have school aged volunteers who train with us and who may be able to only attend 2 or 3 sessions a year but who can support us in other ways. They are learning early in their lives about the benefits of voluntary action and we hope they will secure the future of our group. RDA involvement can and often is included in UCAS personal statements.

Our training focuses on developing riding skills and a better understanding of special educational needs. Our recent training has focused on the challenges of working with children with limited communication skills.

There is regional and national training.Details will be found on the National website.
